What is Advanced Fluorescent Technology (AFT) ?

1What are AFT treatments like?
Treatments will last 20-30 minutes (depending on how much skin needs to be treated). Each inch of skin will receive 1-3 pulses depending on the severity of the condition. Advances in science have helped the pulses to be nearly painless. In the cases of mild discomfort, a topical anesthetic may be used to numb the treatment area. After treatment the skin may appear red for a period of 2-24 hours, although the redness in most patients usually disappears within one hour of treatment.
2Who is a good candidate for AFT?

3What results can you expect from AFT?
Many patients see significant improvement after one sessions. However, desired results are usually realized after 6-8 treatments. As treatment continues, you will begin to notice improvements in skin tone, texture, and color.
4Does it hurt?
The AFT treatment is associated with mild discomfort which can be controlled by topical anesthetic or cooling of the face. Many people do not feel any pain and do not need any supplemental anesthesia.
Before-treatment instructions:

Dr. Ghohestani or one of his associates will meet with you prior to treatment to examine the treatment area, get a complete medical history (including pills, herbs, and drugs you are ingesting or rubbing onto your skin), and then make recommendations for treatment. Do not ingest or rub in any photosensitizing substances 48 hours before or after treatment including antioxidants, products such as St. John’s Wort, and/or any skin creams containing acids. You should avoid lengthy sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. In order to improve the laser’s effect and reduce the possibility of complication, bubble baths and/or foreign chemicals should not be applied to the treatment area for at least 48 hours prior to treatment. Do not take aspirin for 48 hours before or after the procedure. If you have any concerns or questions, you can contact Dr. Ghohestani or one of his associates at (210) 698-6777.

Post-treatment instructions:

After being treated, you should avoid lengthy and unprotected sun exposure for at least 3 weeks. You should avoid using soap on treated skin for 24 hours post-treatment. All photo-sensitizing and/or pigment changing products should be avoided for a period of 3 weeks (i.e. some antioxidants and herbs, retinoids, self-tanner, etc.) unless specifically advised to do otherwise. As a general precaution, in order to maintain the best long-term effects and health benefits, always avoid tanning beds and smoking.
